The Magic of a Woman's Moon Cycle

I can’t help but think a woman’s moon cycle (menstrual cycle) is the most amazing, untapped resource on the planet!
I am reminded of this every time I bleed and release, shedding the lining of my womb like a serpent as I go into my own depths, my own darkness, with a deep faith and knowing that my springtime energy, enthusiasm and light is just around the corner.
A woman’s cycle is just like the cycle of seasons, the moon, tides, breath, life…
Every cycle we go through a winter, spring, summer and fall… only to come back around again. Just like the seasons. Just like the moon. Just like all of life.
When a woman tunes into this in her own body, emotions and life, something miraculous happens that is so unique to her yet so universal to all of life. And especially when a woman learns how to work WITH and not AGAINST her own cycles, not only do life’s inevitable ups and downs become way more bearable (and predictable), she learns how to optimize her life around her cycle and therefore create space to THRIVE.
This is not some new age-y woo woo bs. This is ancient knowledge that has been stripped from us for hundreds of years (#patriarchy), and thank GODDESS it’s making a huge modern day comeback.
We can re-learn and ReMember this for ourselves, right here in our own bodies and cycles.
We can observe the darkness, our winter, The Crone, low tide, the new moon as our wombs are shedding their blood. We can honor the need for space, quietude, reflection and doing nothing during this time. Fore when we do that, we receive our own deep intuitive wisdom - we literally are the temple embodied (this was originally why women didn't go to the temple during menstruation, and later religion and patriarchy twisted it into meaning something completely different). When we honor ourselves like this during our winter, we naturally and easefully blossom into the spring time maiden (and when we don’t honor the winter, the whole cycle can be disrupted and disharmonious).
Observe the spring, The Maiden, she always follows winter – She is the emerging light, the rising tide, the waxing moon, the incoming breath! You’ll likely notice increased energy, mental ability and a desire to “get shit done” and also to play during this time. Yay! Honor that!
Next observe the summer – maximum light, high tide, top of the inhale, full moon, ovulation! Perhaps you’ll observe a fullness in your being during this time, an overflow, increased empathy, compassion and desire to be with others, a willingness to give and serve, just like The Mother.
And inevitably your summer fades into autumn – The Enchantress - reduced light, outgoing tide, waning moon, outgoing breath. Maybe in this time you’ll experience your wild, witchy, unpredictable feminine nature that’s often labeled as crazy, emotional, or PMS. Maybe you’ll notice your subconscious shit bubbling to the surface in this time – shit that in my opinion is so valuable, packed with information about what is coming up to be seen, felt, heard and expressed. When we simply cast this away as PMS or us being overly emotional, we are losing such an incredible opportunity to see what unresolved things we are carrying in our bodies, psyches and spirits. The Enchantress doesn’t judge, and has space for it all.
And of course the cycle continues, and winter naturally comes, releasing what we no longer need, creating space for rebirth.
How fucking miraculous is it that as women we have the opportunity to connect with these energies, these archetypes, directly in our own female bodies?! And how incredibly atrocious it is that we are conditioned to think of our cycles as messy, dirty, shameful, something so many of us wished weren’t there (even something that's being eliminated altogether with certain forms of The Pill).
It’s my personal experience that when I began tracking, working with and honoring my own cycle, they got easier. I had less pain, less blood, less emotional ups and downs (or at least I learned to ride the waves better 😉 ). I started to honor and love my female body so deeply for the miracle that she is – and this came from the inside of me, directly from the parts of me that have been so shamed, shut down, and ridiculed for hundreds of years.
The cool thing is, is that our bodies are living and breathing beings, with consciousness within, and this consciousness I’ve found responds SO favorably to the reconnection and loving relationship that can be built when a woman tuns into and honors her cycle (and there so many other amazing tools to work with also)
Any woman can do this. Even a woman who is no longer menstruating (you can follow the moon’s cycle instead), and even transgender women (you can also follow the moon cycle and connect to your energetic womb).

It is really hard to go and appreciate women and how they work, but it is important that we do. If you have a girlfriend, then best believe that you need to be sensitive when addressing this topic. It can really lead to fights if you do not talk about it properly. It will take a lot of getting used to, but believe me, it will get better. I hope that you start making the right decisions during this time of the month.
